The Perot Museum is a great place for a day out

Hello, Dallas parents! If you’re in search of a morning adventure filled with wonder, excitement, and non-stop giggles, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is the spot for you. Trust me, I’ve explored it with my three kiddos, and it’s become our go-to spots for a delightful day out. From their fascinating exhibits to hands-on activities, I’ve curated an educational and kid-friendly itinerary that promises a day your child won’t forget!

 

 

9:30 AM: A Playful Start at the Perot Museum

Since my family is always up with the sun, we arrive slightly ahead of the Perot Museum’s opening hours. Armed with a cup of hot coffee, I savor the early moments at the outdoor plaza. It’s the perfect space for children to explore the interactive musical instruments and frolic in the Leap Frog Forest—an installation with 13 larger-than-life bullfrogs. 

 

10:00 AM: Dino Wonderland

We then head straight to the T. Boone Pickens Life Then and Now Hall. Here your children can meet life-sized dinosaur models. Watch their eyes light up as they get up close and personal with these prehistoric giants. The interactive displays and touchable fossils will keep those curious minds engaged!

 

10:30 AM: Choose your Exhibit

Since we live close to the Perot and I prefer shorter trips, it’s decision time for my three children. We choose just one exhibit to explore before pausing for lunch. Lately, the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall has been a family favorite. My children’s faces light up as they open and close the Grape Jelly Amethyst Geode—a truly mesmerizing sight. We also make a game out of discovering gems or minerals representing every color of the rainbow.

 

11:00 AM: Recharge with Lunch at the Perot Museum

Break for a tasty, preschool-friendly lunch at the museum’s café. The kid’s menu offers options that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy.

 

11:30 PM: Moody Family Children’s Museum

Venturing down the musical stairs brings us to the last stop before we call it a day. The Moody Family Children’s museum is always a favorite. Time for some hands-on play! This imaginative space is tailor-made for young children. Watch as they explore the kid-sized city, complete with a farmer’s market, a fire station, and a construction zone. It’s a safe and stimulating environment where learning through play is the name of the game.
