Celebrate Independence at the Highland Park 4th of July Parade

I genuinely love celebrating the 4th of July and our nation’s independence. This day also holds significance for me because it marks my birthday! Since moving to Dallas, we have established a tradition of attending the Highland Park 4th of July Parade. This annual event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Highland Park, has become a beloved spectacle that embodies patriotism, creativity, and community spirit.

The Highland Park 4th of July Parade Details

The parade route begins at Prather Park at 9:00 am and ends near Goar Park. My family loves to park near Highland Park Village and watch the parade as it goes along Preston Road, but you can’t go wrong with a location anywhere along the route. After the parade, families gather at Goar Park for a little Independence Day Celebration.

All Hail the Floats

One of the highlights of the Highland Park 4th of July Parade is undoubtedly the incredible floats that grace the streets. Elaborately decorated and meticulously crafted, these floats showcase the artistic talents and boundless imagination of local businesses, organizations, and community groups. From patriotic themes to nods to local history and culture, each float tells a unique story that captivates the crowd.

A Sea of Candy

The candy is, undoubtedly, my children’s favorite part of the Highland Park parade. They are delighted by the generosity of local businesses and groups, who shower spectators with an ABUNDANCE of candy. The children eagerly await the passing floats, filling their hands with sweet treats. I recommend bringing a tote to carry your family’s loot home easily. The sense of excitement the little ones have is contagious and fun for all.

Capturing Sweet Moments at the Highland Park Parade

While my children’s favorite part is the candy, As a family portrait photographer, my favorite part is taking pictures. I know that events like the Highland Park 4th of July Parade are ideal opportunities to capture beautiful and candid photographs of your children. As they experience the parade’s magic, their faces light up with awe and delight. Preserving these moments through photos allows us to relive their contagious enthusiasm for years to come, capturing a fleeting stage of their childhood.

Giving Back

The Highland Park 4th of July Parade has also become an opportunity to give back to the community. Since 2016, The Rotary Club has partnered with the North Texas Food Bank, using the parade as a platform to raise funds for its mission. Their goal this year is to provide 300,000 meals, showcasing the community’s commitment to not only celebrate but also support those in need.
