Dallas Cooperative Preschool: A Mother’s Insight

As a mom of three, I totally get how choosing the perfect preschool for your child is a big deal. It’s where your little one starts their journey into education, curiosity, and making new friends. If you’re on the hunt for an amazing preschool in Dallas, you’re in luck because Dallas Cooperative Preschool is here to impress! In this heartwarming interview, we sit down with Maryanne, a mom whose child attends Dallas Cooperative Preschool. She’ll fill you in on why this school’s early childhood program is something truly special.

About Dallas Cooperative Preschool

What are your three favorite things about Dallas Cooperative Preschool?

1. Play-based learning:

It is amazing the things my daughter will tell me she learned while planting seeds in their class garden, or shopping at their pretend grocery store at school. These kids are learning so much while playing, and I love it!

2. The teachers:

There are four teachers at the Co-op, and you can tell how much they love the students and the students love them. It is obvious they are teaching because they love it. There are also never more than 21 kids at school per day, and one parent or guardian stays each day, so the ratio of kids to adults is perfect! The kids get to choose what they want to do for a lot of the day, but there are also times where they break off into small groups with kids their same age/ability to learn with a teacher. I think the smaller groups make for fun and effective learning.

3. Serving days:

Each child gets to have a serving day every other month. This means that the child’s parent or guardian stays with them at school and brings a snack to share. The child gets to lead the class for the whole day, and bring a show and tell. It is so fun to get to see what your child does every day at school. I have two younger kids who are not school aged yet, and they get to come with me when we have a serving day. It is a great introduction to school for them, and they get to have fun and play and learn at such a young age.

What drew you to the school?

I was looking for a half day preschool program, which they have, and when I learned about serving days I thought it might be a good fit for our family.

Why did you decide to send your child to Dallas Cooperative Preschool?

When we visited the Co-op, my daughter started doing an art project with a teacher and a couple of other kids right away. She then went on to play with toys and wanted to stay for the whole day. She looked so happy and comfortable, I knew it would be a great fit!

What does your child like most about Preschool?

My daughter likes playing outside and serving days the best! There is a good amount of outside playtime, which is always fun, and she asks me if it is her serving day almost everyday. It is so fun to see her stand at the front of the class and lead the class in things like songs, days of the week, months, etc.

Dallas Cooperative Preschool

Dallas Cooperative Preschool is truly a special place where children thrive in a mixed-age environment that fosters social growth and learning. Their developmentally appropriate curriculum ensures that each child’s unique needs and interests are at the forefront of their educational journey, rather than their age. Through play-based learning, little ones build essential skills and develop a love for learning that will serve them well in the years to come. Their cooperative philosophy allows parents to actively participate in their child’s education, creating a strong partnership between home and school.
